Vittorio Luzzati presents VICB Seminar on 11/5/2014

Renowned X-ray crystallographer Dr. Vittorio Luzzati presents the VICB Seminar: "Souvenirs of a Paleo-Protein-Crystallographer" on Wednesday, November 5, at 12:15pm-1:15pm in 1220 MRBIII.

Dr. Luzzati, Research Director Emeritus, CNRS, France, worked as a crystallographer in the early-postwar years when crystallography met with biology. He witnessed first-hand the discovery of the structure of DNA and the determination of the 3D structure of proteins. The Luzzati Plot was named for him.

He will participate in a Q&A session in which audience members can ask questions about the pioneering years of protein X-ray crystallography, particularly about the Protein Structure Program (1950-1959) headed by Professor Harker at Brooklyn.

Dr. Luzzati will also present the Holocaust Lecture Series: "Science and the Holocaust in Italy" on Tuesday, November 4, at 7:00pm in the Commons Center MPR.

The VICB Seminar will also feature introductory presentations by CSB researchers Borden Lacy, Ph.D., ("X-Ray Crystallography of Bacterial Toxins") and Martin Egli, Ph.D. ("X-Ray Crystallography of the Nucleic Acids").
