Jens Meiler wins Bessel Research Award

Congratulations to CSB core faculty member Jens Meiler, Ph.D., on receiving a Friedrich Wilhelm Bessel Research Award from the Humboldt Foundation.

The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, which is located in Bonn, Germany, awards this prestigious honor to nominated scientists based on outstanding research accomplishments and exceptional promise for the future. In addition to a monetary prize, award winners are invited to spend a period of up to one year collaborating on a long-term research project with colleagues at Leipzig University in Germany.

Dr. Meiler, Associate Professor of Chemistry and Associate Professor of Pharmacology, was recognized for his international renown as a scientist and his cutting-edge research record in the field of structural biology. In collaboration with researchers from Leipzig University and colleagues here at Vanderbilt University he researches G-Protein Coupled Receptors, an important class of sensor molecules that are often targeted by therapeutics. Leipzig Professor Annette Beck-Sickinger nominated Dr. Meiler for this award.
